Laurie Kaplan (She\Her) | Founder

Retired, IBM

The WEHGC founding was spear-headed by Laurie Kaplan.  She brought together a committee that created the camp, found the site, helped build the facility and determined its values and direction.  She served as WEHGC Board President for the first years of its establishment.

Laurie grew up in the Boston area and her family was very involved in the WEH Boys and Girls Club and the WEH Camp for Boys.  Laurie, herself attended camp as both a camper and counselor for 10 years and found it a life-changing experience.  Given Laurie’s focus on women’s and young women’s causes, and this camping experience, Laurie would say the WEH and camping is in her “DNA”.

Laurie spent 35 years working for IBM in various technical and management positions. Since her retirement she has been on not-for profit boards, continued her education, and has tutored reading- with the WEHGC as her major focus.

Ann Murray (She/Her) | Leadership

Ann Murray has been on the board for 10 years.  She worked for technology companies in the Boston area in Sales and Marketing positions, retiring in 2013.  In 2014 she joined the staff of Year Up in a part-time unpaid position leaving in 2020.   Year Up’s mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by ensuring that young adults gain the skills, experiences and support that will empower them to reach their potential through careers and higher education.  While there she worked with the mentors and students to help ensure that the relationship was beneficial to both.  Both of Ann’s daughters attended camp and she is a strong believer that camp offers girls the opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence and learn to work as part of a team.  She is happy to be part of the WEHGC Board whose mission is to offer this experience to all girls regardless of their family’s ability to pay.  Other than a strong interest in helping girls experience camp, Ann brings business and marketing experience to the Board.  For 21 years she has biked in the Pan Mass Challenge fund raiser for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  When not biking she loves to spend time with her five granddaughters.
